The majority of Romanian prisoners are doing their time because of theft. This is often a direct result of their desperate situation; poverty-stricken through unemployment, this is unfortunately often seen as a last resort. The Romanian authorities try to discourage theft by severe penalties. One 16 year old boy was sentenced for 2 years behind bars because he had stolen a car. In the West there are often alternative punishments. The result is that the prisons are full, filled with people without hope. We regularly visit the detention houses to evangelise among the prisoners. God's Word always touches their hearts.

We testify with passion about the love of Jesus by singing songs, giving testimonies and a short but powerful preaching.

We always get positive feed-back. The prisoners are so happy we bring the light into their darkness. Those who hardly or never receive visitors are the first we invite for the services.

We normally bring some gifts (especially toiletries) for the inmates as well. The prisoners who rarely receive visits need the gifts most of all. By doing this we want to show them the love of Jesus.

We are grateful for the good co-operation with the local prison chaplain. He loves it when we visit. Through the positive attitude of the chaplain many prisoners have become born-again believers.
