Most of the parents are uneducated and struggle to prepare their children for school. In our pre-school we teach the children the necessary skills they need to enter primary school. The education is based on Christian values and standards and in accordance with the rules of the Ministry of Education. Monica assists teacher, Alina. Monica has finished a course to become a nanny. She is also one of the young people who went through the ‘Mother and Child’ programme herself.
The class starts at 8 a.m. and finishes at 1 p.m. They teach 14 children between 3 to 6 years of age. Fourteen is the maximum number of children for one class.
Good food is necessary for healthy growth, so all the children are given a cooked meal every day after finishing the programme. Many times the children do not receive enough food at home. Sometimes their parents do not have a job or they are not able to care for their large families, because the salaries are too low. The consequence is malnutrition, which seriously effects the children's development. From our Social Centre ‘Casa Lumina’, we are trying everything within our power to improve their situation.
